What is Backflow and How Does It Happen?
Backflow is the reverse flow of water in our plumbing lines. When this happens, the potable water supply becomes contaminated with wastewater. Backflow is caused by backpressure or backsiphonage.
Backpressure: When the water pressure in your private water line exceeds the pressure in the municipal line, backpressure occurs. This problem causes wastewater from your side to cross into the city’s main water line, which will affect the drinking water in your surrounding community.
Backsiphonage: This occurs when there is a sudden change in water pressure, causing wastewater to flow in the opposite direction. Common causes of backsiphonage include water main breaks or improper use of fire hydrants.
A professionally installed backflow prevention assembly can help stop problems such as backpressure and backsiphonage, and keep our community’s potable water supply safe.
Do You Need to Install a Backflow Prevention Assembly?
Backflow prevention assemblies are most often installed in commercial properties. However, certain residential properties are also required to have these systems, particularly homes with cross connections between the private plumbing line and the city’s water system.
You will need a backflow prevention assembly if your property includes any of the following features:
- Fire protection systems
- Irrigation systems
- Large commercial boilers
What to Expect During Backflow Testing
The county will send you a reminder for backflow testing before the deadline (usually forty-five days prior). Call our certified backflow testers to have your system tested and avoid interruption in water service.
Our team provides comprehensive inspection and testing. We will check for irregularities, worn out components, and other problems. If there are no existing issues, the testing process should take no more than thirty minutes. If we find any problems with your backflow prevention assembly, we will carry out the proper repair. Once the test is complete, we will send a report to the appropriate offices on your behalf.

We had a slab leak that appeared over the weekend. First thing Monday Legacy 4 Plumbing was out to take a look and fix it. They quickly found where the leak was and offered us three different solutions and explained the benefits of each one. Steve and Jared were great! They were very professional and got us back to running water quicker than I expected. They were able to run a line into our attic to bypass the broken line. It is so nice to have water again!

I am more likely to take the time to write a review in bad experiences more so than good ones. Legacy4plumbing is a fairly new company that has been growing substantially since its inception. Companies grow not only when they listen to their customers but when they actually follow through with their word. Tim and Jerod were assigned to the job and were excellent in their diagnosis and made the repairs in a timely manor.There was a minor issue after the repair that was noticed after they left. I simply brought it to their attention and it was handled swiftly with no questions asked. Tim was sent to our house to look at my hot water heater. The scheduler (Latisha I think) was so friendly and helpful, and Tim was so wonderful! He diagnosed and fixed our problem fast and was cheerful and friendly. We felt bad that his next job was a long drive away in the ice, but without skipping a beat he just smiled and said "It's okay! We were dealing with our 5th slab leak in 6 years and I was sick of it and decided to get the plumbing redone overhead and take the slab out of it. I called and had multiple plumbers to come out and give pricing and was shocked at how much it would be for my 1600 sqft home. Other plumbers also said it would take 4 days to complete the job.I called Legacy 4 and talked to Cody on the phone and he gave me an estimate 1/3 what the other plumbers quoted. I was in disbelief, but scheduled them to come out the next day. Cody and Jared showed up and did EVERYTHING. They rerouted new pipes all the way to every fixture, insulated the pipes and even added a new line for my fridge! Plus, they did it in ONE day at the estimated price!! I am pleased with their work and customer service. I will definitely be using them again for any of my plumbing needs.

Great service all around! We called Legacy a couple of weeks ago and they responded quickly to address our problem. The sink was working fine when the plumber left but the problem occured again. I called at about 8:30am to have someone come out to look for a leak around our water meter because it was gushing water. The city had already come out and told us it was on our side of the water meter so our responsibility. So I was calling around to find a plumber, using Google reviews, and saw that Legacy 4 Plumbing had good reviews. The lady I spoke to was very nice and scheduled someone to come out the same day. Everyone else I had called couldn’t come out until later this week. Later in the afternoon, Timothy called and said he was on his way. He was very nice. He gave me an estimate and started working. He found the problem was the water meter itself, which the city needed to replace. He helped us put up temporary “fencing”. They all went above and beyond for us today! We have found a new plumber!!! My main sewer line from two toilets to septic tank was clogged, and one of the stools was running over - help!I had a recent good experience with Legacy 4 Plumbing, so I called them again.
