When is a Plumbing Problem Considered an Emergency?
Wondering if your plumbing issue requires emergency assistance? It’s generally considered an emergency if the problem poses imminent risk of water damage or flooding.
The following are examples of plumbing emergencies we handle:
What About Gas Leaks?
Gas leaks in poorly ventilated properties will also require emergency service. If you notice a strong rotten egg odor in your home and you’ve been feeling nauseous, dizzy, or tired lately (telltale symptoms of a gas leak), you may have a broken gas pipe that needs immediate attention. Evacuate your home at once and call our team for emergency gas leak repair.
What To Do During an Emergency
Most plumbing emergencies involve burst pipes or overflowing toilets. The most important step to take during these situations is to turn off the appropriate valve.
Burst pipes: Look for the main water shutoff valve. This will be located in your basement next to the water meter, or outside your home near an outdoor faucet. Turn the valve clockwise to shut it off; this cuts off the water supply to your home and will stop any more water from flowing out of the affected pipe.
Overflowing toilets: Some toilets will stop overflowing at a certain point, but older units may have a harder time controlling excess water if the clog is severe. In either case, it’s a good idea to stop the water supply to the toilet. Do this by turning the valve at the base of the toilet clockwise.
Once you have shut off the proper valves, safely clear the affected area while you wait for your emergency plumber to arrive.
